Unlike a mantra, these are intentions for your overall meditation practice. Start your day and live your life intentionally.
Meditation is not a punishment. You are not required to sit with your face to the wall on timeout; you can meditate anytime, anywhere. Stillness is a loosely defined concept based on your personal experience; it is an inner stillness, a sinking below the waves. You may love meditating while you walk, paint or do the dishes! However you do it, meditation is a container for self-care, it is a practice of gathering proof that your existence is enough. It is an opportunity to witness any limiting beliefs you may have around your worth and productivity, to practice simply being. It is about curiously welcoming all that arises as a learning opportunity as you peek into yourself. I never refer to meditation as 'silencing the mind,' I think that is a recipe for failure, loaded with judgement. Meditation is a self-care practice of observing the stories and limiting beliefs that are running your life. From this neutral place of observation, you can choose which thoughts to keep and which to release. Use these positive, present-tense intentions or create your own: |

If you're anything like me, you're going to love your mala to death. I wrap mine around my wrist (not recommended), I take mine in the hot springs and ocean (not recommended) and I fidget with the guru bead (again, not recommended). If you tend to wear your mala down faster than average, I'm here to repair it for you. I want you to live with and love your mala exactly as you would!
Some believe that when your mala breaks, you have released the karma that these gemstones were guiding you through. Maybe, maybe not, VERY interesting things have been known to happen!
When and if the time comes, visit the FAQ Page an Contact me to discuss your repair or redesign (starting at $35).

A mala is a string of beads used in meditation.
The term ‘mala’ is a Sanskrit word for “meditation garland.”
It is a tactile guide to help you count mantras or breaths, a container for your self care time.
Most importantly, a mala is a tool, it is the container in which you make the magic. It is not the magic, your power of focus and intention to change your vibration is.
The Beads
My Moon Magic mala beads are made out of consciously sourced, all natural semi precious gemstones and crystals to magnify your intentions and desires; they are wearable crystal grids! Each consciously chosen stone carries the healing vibration of Mother Earth's magic to magnify your intentions and help you align with the vibration of your desires.
Malas are made of 108 (or a multiple of 108) beads. The number's significance is open to interpretation as it appears in many spiritual traditions and scientific anomalies. 108 has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism, where Japa Mala Meditation is practiced.

The Guru Bead
The Guru Bead is the larger bead between the 108 bead strand and tassel. It can represent the guru from who you have received a mantra or the intention of your mala. Gu means 'from dark' and ru means 'to light,' creating space to move from questions to answers.
The Tassel
The hand knotted cord running through each bead meets at the guru bead and joins the tassel to symbolize oneness. After meditating, you can run your hand down the beads, over the tassel and release all that does not serve you (see photos below).
Hand knotted
A double strand of vegan cotton and nylon cord is knotted between each bead for strength and durability in a traditionally crafted mala. The knot between each bead also makes it easier to move your fingers from beads to bead in your meditation. The cords meet at the guru bead in two knots to represent your masculine and feminine energies. Three knots are tied inside the tassel to represent your mind, body and spirit. There is so much beautiful symbolism and intention throughout.
The Design
There are many different mala bead designs in the My Moon Magic Shop to create the perfect meditation tool for your unique desires. Varying sizes and textures are a tactile way to guide you through your meditation, spacer beads and/or charms can also be placed throughout so that you know where you are. Mala necklaces are made of 108 8mm or 6mm beads to fit your lifestyle and preference for wear. Mala bracelets are made of 27 8mm beads for a smaller, portable meditation.
How to meditate with a mala.
Welcome to 108 deep breaths of "me time." Mala beads have been used by yogis and spiritual seekers for thousands of years to help keep their minds focused during a special style of meditation called Japa, which means, "to recite."
Some adhere to very strict guidelines but I believe that whatever works for you each day is the best. It is my mission to make self care as accessible as possible by sharing the simplest way to meditate with mala beads. We are householders, not monks, and therefore need to be creative with how we make time for what feels good.

- Start at the guru bead and take a few deep breaths to arrive, ground and center.
- Move your fingers to the next bead (in either direction) and enjoy a deep breath or a mantra with each bead as you move your fingers along.
- You can close your eyes and feel your way along - or - gaze at the beautiful stones if you find grounding and awe in Mother Nature.
- When you reach the guru bead and tassel again, you're done!
- Put your mala on, run your hands down the beads and over the tassel as you release any unwanted energy or distractions to your higher power.
A few more tips...
Some people breathe in with their finger on the bead and out when their fingers slip to the knot between the beads. Other people breathe in and out with their finger on the bead. Some styles insist on using the thumb and middle finger, never the pointer finger to avoid activating the ego, but you'll feel what's right for you.
My favorite pointer...There's no need to meditate sitting upright. I'm often curled up in bed first thing in the morning. Do what is easiest an most comfortable for you.
You may find that a guided meditation or mantra music helps you focus. I suggest the mantra for removing obstacles (found on YouTube or Spotify) Om Gam Ganapatae Namaha.

"Using a tool like mala beads or guided meditations creates a container or sacred space for “me” time. Instead of stopping when my mind thinks I should, I stay longer and discover moments of zen I may have missed. I appreciate how this container has helped me build the spiritual muscle that I am worth the time. Breath by breath, bead by bead,

Gemstones and crystals have healing properties that help to balance the body, mind, and spirit. Both our bodies and healing crystals have energetic vibrations, which makes us naturally receptive to the vibrations of gemstones as they can align our own vibrations with theirs. This is why healing crystals and gemstones have a powerful vibratory effect when placed directly on your body. This energy surges from the crystal to you, which facilitates the free flow of energy throughout the body.
With healing stones, the real game-changer is when you program them with
a specific intention for transformation.
Thoughts can be powerful because they direct energy and energy follows thought. And when you use gemstones in the process, their frequencies help to magnify those thoughts and intentions.

- Know that your body knows what it needs and will guide you, often with first impulse. Each mala does have detailed descriptions of each gemstone’s healing properties but it is a glimpse, contact me to dive deeper.
- Create a Custom Mala based on your unique intentions and desires. Learn more about this magical and unique process here.
- I am happy to guide you deeper into gemstone meaning and care though my resources. Wander through your local crystal store and see where you are pulled. There are also wonderful websites like Hibiscus Moon and simple Google searches for each stone. But back to #1, let your eyes (or hands, in person) be your guide, it is the first impulse that is your intuition and what follows is usually the mind.
You are wise beyond belief, dear Divine Feminine friend,
and I am always here for you.

With the popularity of yoga and meditation on the rise, mantra is a word many of us have heard.
But what is it and how do we pick one?!
This article is your guide to finding a mantra for your japa meditation practice and everyday life.
What is a mantra?
A word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation, originally Hinduism or Buddhism.
- Dictionary.com
The word (mantra) can be broken down into two parts: “man,” which means mind, and “tra,” which means transport or vehicle. In other words, a mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.
- The Chopra Center
The Sanskrit language, the original form of mantra, carries a deeply healing vibration when spoken out loud or said silently. The English translation or your own inspired word / phrase can be just as healing if it sparks your interest - that is energy in action!

Begin with inspirational words and phrases.
How do you desire to feel? That is how you cultivate a mantra.
Find the feeling and use that word / phrase by itself -or - add an ‘I am’ in front of it for full embodiment.
Ex: ”I am so stressed out by my family. I desire to feel at peace, to rest, to be more loving and present.” There’s a lot to work with here, pick the one that feels best:
Breath in, Peace. Breath out Peace.
Breath in, Peace, Breath out Stress.
I am Peace.
I am Peaceful.
I feel rested, whole and complete.
Love. Love. Love.
I am Love.

Do I use one mantra for my entire mala? Do I use the same mantra all the time?
No. No, You don’t have to. Some say it is dedication to use one mantra and maybe that is your path. Others promote the fluidity of what needs to evolve. We’re all so different, observe your own mind, try it out a few different ways.
Take Chris S. for example, this story is BEAUTIFUL!
“I haven’t been wearing my mala as of lately. I felt really disconnected from it and even a feeling of disconnection from my universal purpose.
Today I meditated for the first time in a while with my mala and it was otherworldly. I didn’t have a mantra going in. Rather I asked the universe for guidance and immediately “I am thankful” came to me. I didn’t specifically repeat what it was I was thankful for but rather just saying “I am thankful” about 1/3 around my mala, “awareness” came to me. “I am thankful for my awareness” continued with me throughout the rest of my meditation.
I felt so connected and grateful for how grounded I felt/feel. I was also grateful for how forgiving my mala was to me for me neglecting it and it’s power”

“All matter, regardless of density, vibrates. When stones and crystals are in direct contact with people, pets, plants, other stones and electromagnetism, they pick up vibratory messages. When we use stones and crystals for treatment we need to first clean them of previous influences” - Stone Medicine, A Chinese Medical Guide to Healing with Gems and Minerals by Leslie J. Franks |
Each stone and crystal requires unique care
Some stones and crystals love water, others must be kept out of the sun. Some need cleansing after each use and others less frequently.
Many of the malas that I design contain complementary stones that cleanse each other like Hematite, Quartz, Pyrite, Jade, Quartz and Amber. At the end of this blog, you'll find a complete list of cleansing and charging specifications for each stone. Reach out with questions about your crystal collection or mala.

“Just as rain cleanses the earth, running water is a good method for clearing vibrational charges from a stone. The action of running water creates ions to purify and discharge leftover vibrations. This can discharge static information but may not fully clear.” (note, soft stones can dissolve or lose their gloss with prolonged exposure to water)
The density of the stones and crystals grants them a very slow vibrational frequency, which brings a degree of permanence to their therapeutic effects AND the vibrational influences on them. You can further “burn” the information out by laying some stones in the sun. Use caution, some stones change character or color when exposed to heat. Stone that nourish Yin can be negatively affected by the Yang of the sun’s heat.

Selenite removes energy blockages, cleanses and magnifies energy.
Selenite is translucent like glass and carries a very fine vibration to help access higher realms and clear heat. I have a piece of Selenite in every corner of my home to cultivate a peaceful atmosphere and I lay my malas on a slab of Selenite at night.
And of course...Sage It!
Open a window or a door to release unwanted energy, light the sage and first cleanse yourself with the smoke. Ask that the healing herbs cleanse you and your mala of all energy that does not support your highest intentions.
Giving your mala a cleansing spa day regenerates its ability to support your Divine Feminine, intentional meditation practice. Once cleansed, your mala needs to be revitalized. Depending on where the stones were formed in the Earth, they will require a different geological charging process. Connect with me for your malas unique needs.
The Full Moon is your go-to, charging super power!
When in doubt, lay your mala outdoors (weather dependent) or on a window sill under the bright moon light. Each full moon, cleanse and recharge your mala while reconnecting to each stone’s healing properties and how they support your shiny, clear intentions. Women are cyclical beings and goddesses of the moon, here’s a great opportunity to reconnect to that power each month!
Let the sweet smoke of Palo Santo re-charge you and your mala.
When you receive your mala, it has already been saged by me to release all energy that does not serve your highest intentions. Now it’s your turn to burn Palo Santo and call in all that you desire. (still to come on the blog: How to Set Intentions, stay tuned!)
Master healer Clear Quartz can do. it all.
“Quartz is the most powerful healing and energy amplifier on the planet because of its unique helical spiral crystalline form...it absorbs stress, releases and regulates energy and is excellent at removing blockages” - The Crystal Bible, Judy Hall
The Chinese name for clear quartz crystal is shi ying “outstanding stone,” for it’s capacity to increase the power of other stones. Clear Quartz has the ability to receive, store, conduct and amplify energy. When placed with other stones, Clear Quartz absorbs and directs the therapeutic properties of the other stones. Get this, clear Quartz forms at all levels in the Earth’s crust and can be used with any stone!
Heads-up: Because of the crystalline structure and growth process, crystals help you direct your thoughts and plant seeds of change and awakening. Clear Quartz picks up on your thoughts and intentions, be mindful where you place this in your home. (Ex: Quartz placed near electromagnetism or a TV with action films will pick up and magnify that intensity and violence until cleansed).
